Nightmare Manor has been cursed since its inception almost 200 years ago. Construction began in 1812, the same year that the British burned down the White House. When locals learned that the British had invaded and were marching through the area, construction of the manor stopped. Most men joined the local militia or fled the area. The owner of the manor, Dr. Grey, chose to remain behind with his wife and daughter.

When the British arrived the militia ambushed them in the woods beside the manor. The larger British force devastated the militia who retreated, leaving the wounded in the care of Dr. Grey. The British arrived at Dr. Grey's home the next day and seized control of the manor. When the British commander discovered the militia soldiers hiding in the manor he brashly ordered them shot. The militia soldiers drew their guns from hiding and attempted to resist. Gunshots erupted on both sides, and musket smoke filled the room like a heavy fog.

Amidst the disorder, Dr Grey's wife and daughter, who had been helping to care for the soldiers, were mortally wounded. Over the coming days Dr. Grey was forced to treat the wounded British, and watch as his loved ones slowly died before his eyes. When they finally passed, Dr.Grey took his revenge by poisoning the British soldiers that he was supposed to be treating. The remaining soldiers, fearing that the deaths of so many wounded was caused by an outbreak, fled.

Dr. Grey was never heard from again. When construction workers later returned to the farm they were faced with the daunting task of removing dozens of dead bodies from the manor. Some of the workers swore that the body of Dr. Grey was amongst them. Others said that the bodies had decayed beyond recognition, and that there was no way to know for sure.
